Analysis on Casablanca
Casablanca
is a film that, we as movie watchers, should take in in multiple ways. For
example, the multiple themes and plot points that are poignant throughout this
film are vast. Not only does this film describe a classic American love story,
but the emphasis that is put on the political world views of that time was
something that most people who saw the film really liked.
The consensus of most people who
didn’t see the film consisted of Casablanca
being merely a 1940s love story. It is much more than that. Being that this
movie came out during the height of World War 2, the idea of German troops
being in an unoccupied French territory filled with expatriates of all sorts;
explores the idea that the director wanted to make a movie that the American
public could assimilate to, in a time that such situations could be plausible
during this time period. Much of the meaning behind the film gets lost to people
who grew up in my generation. When people my age look at this film the
sub-plots and subtle undertones get lost in the “love story” part of the film.
It takes a few times watching it all the way through to get a true grip on
everything that is being portrayed.
One review in particular is quoted
by saying “…Casablanca is a great
romance, a stirring wartime adventure, a suspenseful action movie, and in the
end, a terrific buddy movie. It’s listed again and again on the top ten lists
of critics and fans alike.”
How does this message get
transpired to the rest of the viewing public? What ways, beside our own initial
views. To sum up, Casablanca is the
movie that must be watch more than once in order to fully grasp it. You must
expand your mind, and dive into your subconscious to get all of the multiple
themes and sub-plots.
